The Best of 2005

2005 was hands-down the worst year of my 30 years. I don’t think anyone can argue with that. I’m glad to see it go away. While I won’t remember it fondly, I will acknowledge 2005 as a life-changing year. The events of 2005 weren’t always the easiest to swallow or even manage, but their effects will continue to affect my life, and those of my family and friends for years to come. How we deal with those effects is up to us. We can use it as an excuse to give up (the Saints) or we can rise above those events beyond our control and build a better future. I’m choosing the latter. I don’t know of any other way.

Here’s to a better future in 2006. I can’t wait to put 2005 behind me and start over. Thank you to everyone who has been here (from a distance or right in my own house). Without the people I love, 2005 would have been unbearable.

I started this post as a “Best of elbuzzard.com” type thing and got a little side-tracked. Here are some stats from the blog’s first year.

  1. ohe, 2005 was my best year in a very long time.

In EQ2 your class starts off as a generic “Priest” or “Fighter” and along the way, you complete quests towards your specialization, coming to a narrow point finaly at level 19 where, in order to finally level to 20 you must first complete a series of quests and trials which have you running around doing crap of course. The game doesn’t let you level to 20 until you have completed your final class quest, however it does allow you to “save” the experience you’ve gained in level 19, allowing you to save up to 220% over your level limit’s worth of experience.

After you’re done all the running and gathering and handing in and speaking to people and killing and have completed your class trial, first you finally become your chosen class, then you ding up to either level 20 or even 21 depending on how much you’ve “saved” in experience.

The beginning of 2005 was when I completed a LOT of running around, gathering, speaking to people, slaying foes ( ie: the US Social security office and US Immigration) and I finally completed a bunch of crap I’ve been working on for about 3 years. And from January until now I’ve been accelerating at a pace I never have before, dinging from 19 to 21. Things are slowing down now and it’s time to start building towards the next goals, but I look back upon this year with great satisfaction and a feeling of accomplishment and even pride.

Next year I hope to work on being a nicer person, now THAT is a goal.

Happy New Year Buzzes, may 2006 be better than 2005 and bring you the happiness you deserve.

  2. Happy new year!

Lucy starts school this year. I’m not entirely sure how that happened. I worry that I’ve been so wrapped up in my own struggles (trying to find a job in CO and emigrate) that I’ve been missing out on the kids being kids somehow. I worry that I’ve blown thousands of pounds over the last few years on something that’s never gonna happen.

On the upside, I took 60 dollars from pissed (that’s drunk for you non-english speakers) poker players in the early hours of this morning. I love drunk online poker players.

Good luck in 2006 one and all!

  3. Maybe I should curb my replies in 2006, but then I am proud of being the most prolific.

I agree with Kent that this has been one of the most life altering years of my ___ years of being on this earth. I thought the addition of children would be number one or when those beautiful ones left the nest. Greg, you have a lot to look forward to and also to cry over. The destruction of New Orleans has effected so many….near and far. I don’t know how it will all end, but the support of friends and family have gotten me through so far. Here is to a brightter 2006 full of happy moments with all those who I love. (PS Kent….I have another picture of someone else’s child on my desk plus the Drag Queen). God bless you all!!!!!

  4. Yay! I’m on somebody’s list.

And this time, it’s not necessarily the bad list.

Buzz – got a paper bag I can borrow? LOL!
