Heartbroken again

The Saints of old are back!  It was a missed extra point and a backwards pass all rolled into one.  After the safety, I was sure we had that game in the bag.  Up by three, 3:30 or so left on the clock, just run the ball and kill the clock.  Punt it to them with a minute or so.  They don’t have any timeouts.  I forgot the number one truth of Saints football: There’s always time to lose the game.

We call some kind of ugly end around pitch from Reggie to Devery, and we put the ball on the ground.  I guess if that ridiculous play works, Payton is a genius.  Instead, he just looks like a complete fool, and costs us our chance at the post-season.

At least we have someone else to blame besides Jason David.

  1. Never a dull moment. I just laughed when it happened. It’s really fun to root for a team that is supposed to be good, but can’t get out of its own way. It makes you love them all the more. They play hard. They get mad. They say all the right things. It just didn’t come together this year.

  2. I was reading somewhere that that play was an indication that things are getting back to normal in New Orleans.

  3. Could be worse, you could be a ‘skins fan…I loled my arse off at Joe Gibbs and his penalty for calling 2 timeouts on the game winning kick!

  4. There was a wonderful editorial by Jarvis DeBarry in this morning’s paper. Coach Payton bought into the New Orleans and LA philosophy of making things as complicated at possible. ( Look at the Road Home debacle.) Our motto should be “Keep it Simple.” We had the game and we lost it because of a stupid, complicated, razzle-dazzle play. It would have been wonderful if it had been successful, but it was totally unnecessary and foolish. Keep it simple, stupid, and win the game.

    And another BOOOOOOO!!!! to Susan.

  5. Susan is not a football fan at all. I have tried to convince her of the merits of being a true fan, but to no avail. She is a wonderful person, but will remain a Boo Bird.

  6. I AM GOING TO DEFEND MY BOOOO BIRD STATUES:
Lord knows I can tolerate football. I even enjoy watching it. I was enjoying the game very much on Sunday. Until ONCE again the SAINTS let it slip right through their hands. I just think it is soooo funny how people really get mad and angry. (like my husband).
Shouldn’t they be used to it by now?

  7. I guess what’s so upsetting is that as fans, we thought that the team had changed. New coach, new QB, new success last year.

And it turns out we’re still the Saints, missing extra points and pitching ball backwards on the turf.

  8. Brent, you are only defending Susan so she won’t steal your beads at Mardi Gras. I have to say I am totally ashamed of the fans and the way they cursed Coach Payton and the team when they left the field. Frustration is one thing, but can’t we have a little class just ONCE.

  9. That’s why I love Brent. I am not stealing his beads this year…. Hopefully, I will kick his ass in garbage can basketball.

  10. I Hope the patriots win it all in undefeated fashion.
I will laugh as everyone gets upset. ah, football. you make life so much fun.

and “they” say cheaters never prosper. lol

  11. You whiners think you’ve got it so bad. The St. Louis Rams are suddenly playing like a real team. It sounds like they’re looking real good out there, but I wouldn’t know because I have to listen to the games on the radio. They won’t play our home games on TV becuase they aren’t selling enough tickets. I wish I could afford tickets to go watch the Rams, even if they still hadn’t won a game this year. I live about 4 blocks from the stadium. I could get shit faced and walk home. That would be sweet, but I don’t have any money, and I can’t see it on TV.

O’J.’s employment update: still unemployed, but I did sign a confidentiality statement yesterday, about illustrating some kind of writing project for a casting agency. They casted “The Crow 5”, starring Edward Furlong, among other stuff. I’m not sure what the proj. is yet, and I’m not even sure if this means I get the job, or if the job even pays. Other than that, I interviewed at Family Video ( a midwest video store chain) on Monday. It went like this: “What’s your favorite movie. . . alright, well, we’ll let you know when we’ve made a decision.” I haven’t heard back from them. The P.A. job on the feature didn’t come through. Getting my license reinstated four days after our meeting (two days after Thanksgiving weekend) wasn’t fast enough. They’d filled the position. Cest la vie. What can I say, I’m in love with the struggle.

This thread jack has ended, continue watching your Tivoed football games. I’ll be sitting by the radio. They won’t even play the AZ Cardinals on TV here, because they don’t want us reminiscing about Kurt Warner. They played an infomercial on that station instead. I can’t wait until all the Patriots get busted for performance enhansing drugs. Even the coaches are taking them, I know it.
