Let the Joey Harrington Era Begin
Yesterday, Michael Vick was indicted on dog-fighting charges. Way to go, Ron Mexico! You pissed away your ten-year contract! You decided that your natural athletic gifts weren’t worth it alone, you needed to maim, injure, and abuse dogs!
What this means for the Falcons is that the best worst quarterback in the league now has a legitimate shot at starting for an NFL team again.

Until they sign Dante Culpepper, that is. It will be Miami, take two. With fewer wins.
Poor Joe Horn.

I wear my #3 Lions jersey with pride every chance I get. I put it on immediately upon hearing the news yesterday.

Let’s just let all the facts come out. I still believe in you Michael! You are really fast!

This could easily drag the whole team down this year. I’d be tempted, if I were the Falcons, to can Vick now, in order to minimise the damage from this. Of course, if he turns out to be innocent, then the fallout might be worse for them in terms of publicity and maybe lawsuits?

I like how Vick apologists keep saying “he’s never been in any trouble before.”
Really?

LOL no way. Are there really people saying that?

Peter King for Sports Illustrated:
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/writers/peter_king/07/18/vick.league/index.html
The NFL is not going to preemptively strike against a player with a relatively clean slate, as Vick has. And to those who want Goodell to take Vick off the field for 2007, such as the Humane Society of United States, the league is in full agreement that the allegations are grievous ones. But Vick hasn’t had 10 run-ins with the law, like Pacman Jones. He hasn’t been arrested as many times as Chris Henry. So Goodell is not going to ban him from the game.
I guess my definition of relatively is different than King’s.

He really doesn’t really have that much on his record. Seriously. I’m not saying that he’s a great guy, but he’s hardly a pariah. Who really likes players for what they are like as people anyway? If we started crossing people off our lists because of their personal values, we wouldn’t have anyone to cheer for. But, maybe I am missing the point. It might just feel good to point out when other people are assholes. I like to do that.

He has a long history of douchebaggery. I know that’s not necessarily a crime. But knowingly giving a woman herpes is a long way away from getting thrown out of the Playboy Mansion for trying to sneak someone in.

This will definitely hurt Vick’s career. People are really disgusted when animals are abused. It is sad to say they care more about animals than women, but I guess it goes back to a woman has free will and can walk away or make another choice. These poor animals are tortured and abused. I hope he gets canned. Imagine making all that money and you fight dogs?

With that much money, you think you’d move up to bumfights or something. Or russian roulette like in the Deerhunter.

If we had his type of money in our mid twenties, God knows what sort of horrible things we would have done. We would have arranged for Unicorn fights, if we could have found them. (I think they live by rainbows). I also want to point out that just because it’s in the news does not make it true. See: Duke LaCrosse team.

I still believe the Duke Lacrosse team is guilty. I still believe OJ is guilty. I believe Michael Vick is guilty, too.
Pacman got suspended before he was indicted. Why should Vick be treated differently?

How about Kobe Bryant or Mark Chmura? Determining criminality isn’t always easy (for juries or the prosecution at least).
I wouldn’t be surprised if Vick pulls a Ray Lewis and gets off by testifying against the “real” offenders–unless they have him on tape or something.

kobe, chmura, najeh davenport, barry bonds, lance armstrong, the other bicycle guy won won after armstrong…. all guilty.

Let’s just make our peace with the fact that, with the exception of Drew Brees, and all other Saints, they are all first class jerks. But we like to watch them run around because they are very good at it.
Let’s also get some Unicorns. Preferably with wings.

Daunte’s available if the Falcons are quick. I also hear Tim Couch is looking for a team again.
There’s always Jeff George, he comes out about this time of year and pitches himself around.

There is a great article in the Sports section today about Michael Vick. Sad but true.

New T-shirt–Ignorance breeds Ignorance—
Nueter Michael Vick!

Don’t undersell it, Kent. He also had some killed. According to the AJC, several dogs that weren’t up to Vick’s exacting standards were “executed” by “hanging, drowning and slamming at least one dog’s body to the ground.” The article also says that two dogs Vick later “sponsored” to fight were killed after they lost fights; one was shot, the other electrocuted.
It’s almost as if these guys took some sort of perverse pleasure in finding new and exciting ways to kill dogs.
Also, cut Joey some slack. Not only is he a great pianist, he’s kinda got a Luke Wilson vibe going. He may not win many games, but I will bet good money that he won’t kill any puppies this season.
