Most everyone knows that I’m a Hillary supporter, but I surely wish that she could give a speech like Obama’s race speech.
If you haven’t watched it, you should. His ability to explain whites’ and blacks’ experiences with racism to the other side is amazing. The worst parts are when the people listening applaud. Shut up and let the man speak.
I agree with you it was one of the best speeches concerning race relationships. People need to listen, really listen to what he said. I do not think Hillary or any other white person could have made the speech and have it as effective as Obama did.
I watched the whole thing and I too was impressed by the content and tone. But two of my friends (older white guys as well) said that before the speech, they were favorably considering Obama, but, they changed their minds and their reasoning was that he didn’t distance himself enough from his pastor and that it was like a too often repeated history lecture. We did have a spirited discussion then.
I imagine that they weren’t really favorably considering Obama, but rather looking for a reason to unfavorably consider him.
