  1. other than the deathly hollows and dark tower IV from stephen king, i think every other book i’ve read is a poker strategy book, and i’m almost always reading. so that’s a lot of poker.

  2. I read that a couple of months ago. Never read it before. Pretty prophetic if you ask me.

I was on a “read the classics” kick. Also read Wuthering Heights. That’s a really good read.

  3. i had to read it in 12th grade. best reading list by a teacher ever. she also made me read sidhartha (sp?) great read

  4. I keep a list too. I use librarything.com to do so, because I am anal. You might like it, if you spend as much time on a computer as I do.

Here’s my list, in alphabetical order:

    • The Alchemist – Paulo Coelho
    • The Art Book
    • Atlas Shrugged – Ayn Rand – currently struggling through this massive, awful book.
    • The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin – Benjamin Franklin
    • Catch-22 – Joseph Heller
    • The Daily Show with Jon Stewart Presents America (The Book) Teacher’s Edition: A Citizen’s Guide to Democracy Inaction – Jon Stewart
    • The French Quarter: An Informal History of the New Orleans Underworld – Herbert Asbury
    • Guards! Guards! – Terry Pratchett
    • Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell – Susanna Clarke
    • Lincoln: A Novel – Gore Vidal – I quit reading this one, because it was so dull.
    • Me Talk Pretty One Day – David Sedaris
    • Mythology – Edith Hamilton
    • Of Mice and Men – John Steinbeck – This may be the saddest thing I have ever read.
    • Oryx and Crake – Margaret Atwood
    • The Postman – David Brin
    • The Princess Bride: S Morgenstern’s Classic Tale of True Love and High Adventure – William Goldman
    • Rant: An Oral Biography of Buster Casey – Chuck Palahniuk – This was my first Palahniuk book. He sucks. I guess he’s ok if you have masculinity issues and problems with aceepting women as human beings.
    • Song for My Fathers: A New Orleans Story in Black and White – Tom Sancton
    • Thank You, Boys: A Salute to the Saints – The best book I’ve read read!
    • Thud! – Terry Pratchett – I didn’t finish this one yet, I had to put it down to puch myslef through Atlas Shrugged.
    • To the White Sea – James Dickey
    • The Worst-Case Scenario Survival Handbook: Work – Joshua Piven – Dave gave this to me for last Xmas. I didn’t know until just now it was written by Joshua Piven.

The best book I read was Catch-22
The best book I read that I had never read before was Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell.

  5. I read Of Mice and Men for English Literature class at school. I’ll have to re-read it now I’m a lot older. I pretty much threw away my English Lit course because I was lazy, and I regret that now.

  6. Also, after looking at Greg’s list, I don’t feel ashamed that I also keep track of the novelty books I read in the bathroom.

  7. heheheheh, yeah, I put everything on there. Trouble is it would literally take weeks to input all the books I have here in boxes in the spare room and attic.

  8. I only put the stuff that I read on there. I don’t really see the point of using it to catalog my entire book collection. I do that at work, I don’t need to do it at home. It’s more useful for me to just add books as I read them.

  9. I’ve read 99% of the books I have at home here. I’ve settled for adding them to the list as I re-read them.

  10. Chuck … I haven’t read an entire book in two years. Yet, I’m an odds-on favorite to die alone.
Do you want to do that together?

  11. Dave, don’t forget that you read a thousand magazines and web pages, and that’s just as good as a book.

  12. Kent, thanks for the librarything.com tip. I will most certainly look into it for next (this) year assuming I ever finish the book Infinite Jest.

Dave, I like to keep a pretty literary death bed. Pick up on your reading, and we will see.

p.s. I’m sorry about the Sooners game. I would suggest that the WV coach sold his soul to the devil for the win, but based on his actions, I think he may have sold his soul to either the baby Jesus or a really friendly angel.

  13. oh man. i tried to read infinite jest once. that is one tough read.
i think i read about 1/4 of the books 1100 some pages. but with the tiny print it’s more like 3000 pages. there never seemed to be much of a story either, just a bunch of characters moving about aimlessly.

  14. Let’s debate Stoops’ onside kick play call for a bit.

    Or, if you prefer:

Why can’t OU win a BCS bowl game?

  15. what OU needs to realize is that if you pay off the right people, one can win anything.

I once saw Mike Tyson lose to Buster Duglass. tell me that wasn’t fixed and I have a bridge I’d like to sell you. Great location… overlooks both Manhattan and Brooklyn. Going Fast.

  16. Anyone know what Bob Stoops and marijuana have in common? They both get put in bowls and smoked.
