2008 JazzFest 2008x Better than 2007

Enough politics, let’s move on to something really important: The 2008 JazzFest lineup is so much better than last year.

Some notable non-New Orleans acts:

  • Stevie Wonder
  • Billy Joel
  • Stevie Wonder
  • Santana
  • Stevie Wonder
  • Al Green
  • Stevie Wonder
  • Robert Plant & Allision Kraus
  • Stevie Wonder
  • Stevie Wonder
  • Randy Newman
  • Stevie Wonder
  • John Prine
  • Richard Thompson
  • Bobby McFerrin!
  • Stevie Wonder
  • Bela Fleck
  • Stevie Wonder

Dave, I’m sorry that there’s no Dave Matthews Band for you.  Instead, you get: The Raconteurs

Widespread Panic is also on the lineup, I’ll be far far away on that day.

Leslie, Papa Grows Funk will be there as well.

And Stevie Wonder.

  1. Are we skipping right over Mardi Gras and going to Jazzfest? What are ya’ll doing for Mardi Gras? Who is coming besides Grant? What are we wearing? Where are we meeting? I need some plans!

  2. Am I the only one who doesn’t think this lineup is that great? I’m with Cat on the John Prine, but the rest of it all seems pretty typical.

  3. My Mom and Tim are in for Stevie Wonder. They’re going to move around their publishing deadlines to stay for three days, instead of their usual two. I’m trying to get my Aunt Kathy (the nice lady who hosted our wedding) to come too.

My goal is for all of them to do jello shots by 10am.

  4. I’d go see Stevie Wonder, but even if i’m in the crowd, he won’t see me, so what’s the use really?

  5. Yes, you are the only one who doesn’t think this lineup is that great. Did you see last year’s lineup? That was not great. A lot of these are classic acts that you would never be able to see for the price of a Jazzfest ticket. And these are just the national, mainstream acts. I didn’t list any of the local acts that you also get from JazzFest. The Gospel Tent alone is worth the price of admission.

I would never in my right mind go see a Stevie Wonder concert, but he’s got some truly great songs, and I’m excited to see him perform. It was the same thing with Bruce Springsteen a couple years ago. Would I pay $120 to see him in an arena? Hell no. But I did see him in a smaller outdoor venue for a lot less money, and it was one of my most favorite shows ever.

There are two Brents in my life, and they are both music lovers. But they represent almost opposite ends of music appreciation. I would never expect Brent K to enjoy JazzFest.

  6. You might want to skip Robert Plant and Allison Kraus if you are expecting Led Zeppelin. I’d hate for you to experience fiddle-playing when you are expecting Dazed and Confused.

  7. Well, Page did use a violin bow during live performance of Dazed and Confused….but, yeah, I don’t think Planty’s set will include many Zeppelin classics
